I guess I ended up using a full sheet of card stock for the base of this layout... but everything else was straight out of my drawer. I even used my new Technique Tuesday stamps that I bought at CKC!!

I can only apologize and offer up a potential excuse that I was consumed with trivial household chores and lost my craft table under a long to do list. I am tired of organizing and reorganizing my 'stuff'! My creativity is hampered by piles of almost done projects.

This week's challenge is to create a layout using only the paper from your scrap drawer, file, bag or box where you keep the remains of paper. I think for the time being, I am going to only do two challenges a month. Between the kid's cooties and sports schedules, I am frustrated by not staying on top of the challenges! A Week In My Life

In retrospect, it would have been more efficient to do a page each day rather than doing it all at once. Like, I would have realized that I was almost out of ink half way through the week rather than Sunday night when I tried to print our all my photos. Also, my 11-year old thinks I am totally narcissistic... so I should have mentioned the project before he saw all the shots I took of myself like I am my own personal paparazzi. Whatever, I rock! This was really a great project, it had me looking at my daily routine with a new perspective. If you haven't tried it yet, you should!

Ali Edwards is doing A Week In the Life, based on classes that she taught at CKC over the years. This is not an official class, but just something she is doing on her blog for the fun of it. This was a fun layout to do, although I may have gotten carried away with the bubble roller stamp! I feel like my style may be evolving somewhat!! I used the white glaze pen on the buttons, a Creative Memories Brown thin tip marker to journal and hand draw my imperfect frames and used pop dots to elevate my word blocks.

I found this video link off of Donna Downey's website/blog a couple of weeks ago... http://www.donnadowney.com/. There is a free video download on her site on how to make an art journal out of newspaper and I was so inspired to get out of my normal route of scrapping that I made my own! The video however, fails to mention how many glue sticks you will go through... let's just say after eight I stopped counting and I had to go out and buy more! I spent at least ten hours from start to finish, but I made a total of 15 pages and I still have about half of that left for another album... there was a bit of downtime waiting for paint to dry, but this was so AMAZING!

Imperfect Photos

We all have them, we may have printed them out against our better judgement... it couldn't really be 'that' blurry, right????? Or (pre-digital) we didn't know truly how bad it was. My 11-year calls them the 'blurs of inexperience', the trial and error shots where you go, 'huh' what is that?

I am calling for you to out your questionable photography skills and create a layout about them, or the moment they capture, however fuzzy it may have been. This could even be from your latest vacation or trip to the mall, whatever... underexposed, blurry, overexposed... embrace your imperfect moments!

I realize that I didn't really construct a sentence in the layout, but it's the same idea, right??

OK.... I think I am really excited for the school year to start since this is the first year Kieryn will be in school all day and Meghan starts preschool. What will I do with myself for those 5 hours of me time every week??? I don't know but I sure am anxious to try out the new schedule!!!

Of course, part of me is bummed because it means that our schedule gets more rigid, the rain will eventually come, and a part of me will be a little sad that Kieryn is going to be gone all day.

Ok, way, way, way late on this, but better late than never, huh?? One of the things that inspires me most is watching my kids grow & morph into young men and women. Tucker is on this journey now and, while, on one hand, it is hard to see your babies grow up; on the other, that is exactly what they were born to do!! To watch the transformation from child to young adulthood (particularly one in which the child seems to make good decisions MOST of the time) is truly inspiring! I am blessed.

Yes, I know this is late! Yes, I realize there are no photos on my layout. So, the moral of this story is don't lend your camera to your hubby to take out of town and then expect that the hotel is going to expeditiously ship the camera back in time for you to complete your weekly challenge OR in time for your fifth grader's graduation ceremony. You will be stuck using an old 35mm camera that while you are relieved to find the external flash and see that it does indeed have a light meter, it does not have auto-focus, weighs twenty pounds and is impossible to use while your three year old is having a tantrum and is pinned up against the wall so he doesn't try to escape AGAIN while people give you major stink eye for your inability to control your child and a mother you have known for 3 years calls you Angela and then is offended later when you didn't return her greeting because you didn't realize that she was talking to you because your name is NOT Angela. I hate Mondays! THIS is my layout so just deal!

This challenge was harder than I thought it would be, not using more than 5 products was difficult... that is the opposite of what I thought would give me problems. My five products were: cardstock, double-sided Heidi Swapp paper, ribbon, one sheet of stickers (this is probably a grey area, but it was my challenge!) and ink.

One of the things I enjoy doing for me is spending time with my dad. This is from the first Harley ride Dad and I went after Mom passed. The weather was beautiful and shopping was successful. We're doing another ride tomorrow. Yeah!

Houston, TX Photowalk

I was in Houston this past weekend with Tom to celebrate our 14th anniversay. He had been there the entire previous week to work a trade show--as he has for the past 2 years over our anniversary--so this year, I went and joined him at the end for the weekend. We stayed with our friends, Robbie & Dana Reider, who will soon be moving back to Cincinnati. It was a good weekend, but VERY hot & humid. This was the first time that we left our kids at home, on their own, for a whole weekend, too! Kind of scary, but they seemed to have managed just fine. The layout is all digital (I seem to be able to get the digital ones done more quickly!!)

This week the challenge is to swap photos and journaling with a scrap buddy, and you will do a page using their photos with your supplies and they will do one for you. If you want to provide journaling with the photos you can, or just leave space on the page that will accommodate the journaling to be added later. The idea here is to venture out of our scrapbooking comfort zones and look at our photos in a different way. I know I am not the only one that feels like I have a definate 'style' and it seems impossible to get too far away from that. I think that this challenge will inspire us all to try something new! I didn't use a paper trimmer and I only cheated a LITTLE bit by doing the photo layout part digitally. The rest is paper, so this is a true hybrid layout. To cut, I used by deckle-edged decorative scissors on everything. Good challenge, Jill!!

So, this week's challenge is straight from the "We Dare You" book...create a page with seven random facts about your life. It can be about your family, relationships, the next ten minutes, the last ten minutes, about you...whatever, random is to you. This will be good for me because it is in no way chronological in nature!!

Argh! I can't believe jillybean beat me!! Mine was done, I just hadn't posted it yet! My quote was from a layout that I can't find now by Stacy Julian where she said "Life is about choices, do what you love." I thought this page pulled all my loves together; graphic design, photography, scrapbooking, family, fonts and Ali Edwards...although just for the record I haven't 'done' her, but I have hugged her and boy howdy was that good for me!

Hey! Am I first one posted this week.....woohoo! Here is my favorite quote page. I thought I would put a quote number at the top and keep doing layouts like this every now and again and maybe someday have an album of favorite quotes. It could happen!!

I got the basic design of the layout from this month's SS Magazine Father's Day Layout by Kim Morgan on page 34. I used the CK Digi Kit Flower Girl by Jennifer Sprague. I played with a lot of filters and other editing effects on the photo. I am not exactly sure if I like the results but I will print it out and worst case I will take the photo out and replace it with the more gently edited photo.

My quote reads: "Do not underestimate the value in doing nothing, just going along and listening to the things you can not hear." Adapted from Calvin & Hobbes.

I am so glad to see that Lori has joined us and with such a great starting layout!!

Ribbon Challenge

Finally I have a layout posted!!! This is my ribbon challenge and it is definately not what I had in my mind for the project but it meets the criteria. In my head I saw a ribbon frame that was weaved thru the paper. I guess I will have to try that some other time.

Products used: All the strips on the side of the photos are self adhesive ribbons from DCWV. Green ribbon bows are from KI Memories and painted chipboard letters for title I think are also from KI Memories. Bazzil Cardstock. Wild Asparagus Patterned paper. TLC Craft Tags were used to make the scalloped sides.

Ribbon Challenge

Ok, so I didn't use a LOT of ribbon on this layout, probably because I am just not much of a ribbon user to begin with, making this a TRUE challenge for me. I used the BasicGrey Periphery papers that I bought at convention along with the coordinating Bazzil Cardstock. Journaling reads: "Megan, you have not had an easy time with reading. It has proven to be quite a challenge for you, but you have worked very hard & overcome your difficulty and have even learned to enjoy reading. There have been a few books that have especially captured your interest and the Spiderwick series have been one of these."

Ok, so I think I am a challenge or two behind :-), but I will do my best to keep on scrappin' and postin'!!

OK....The past week of being sick has completely kicked my butt! But I am finally well enough to get back into my scrap room and get some work done. I am still working on the past 2 challenges and I am determined to get something posted for each and still work on the new challenge. We'll see??

Interview

Originally I was going to do my dad...but he still hasn't sent me a photo to go with his survey. So, the only other family member that is on the ball like me is my little firecracker of a cousin, Robin. She maybe petite, but she could totally make a grown man cry in fear, just ask her hubby Jeff! Truthfully though, she totally rocks! The only thing that makes me sad is she lives all the way on the other side of the continent! Love you Robin!!

This ad was my second choice, the one I was doing digitally got eaten by my evil new computer. As a punishment, it is being returned to Dell and they are making me a new one....seriously, I don't know if it was the hinkiness of Vista or just a fluke bad computer, but this was a BAD computer.

So, for my second choice, a clean simple layout using FLOWERY paper!!! Hee-hee!! The journalling says "there's nothing cuter than chubby baby hadns. Except maybe chubby baby hands, or cheeks or CHEEKS!"

Ads Rock!!

So, you know how it is... you're flipping through the seemingly endless ads in your latest and greatest magazine to get to the articles. STOP... go back, look at the ads! Your challenge this week is to find an ad layout that totally rocks (or just rocks you) and translate it into a scrapbook page. Let the layout be your muse and try and pull the colors from the ad into your page as well. I have a stack of magazines to dig through, and not all of them are (gasp) scrapbooking mags!!!!

Playful Pages Completed!!

SO... I was going to wait to use these until I was done with my LAST CM album, but somebody didn't want her CKC layouts lingering aorund for a year, so what was I supposed to do?! Above the gaping mouth photo I used the Heidi Grace ghost letters to spell out 'toothy' and the journaling says "Max started losing teeth right and left, or top and bottom, during second grade."
I loved this class and layout! It totally worked with these photos, and yes, the CM album is done! I did ten whole pages last night, not my personal record, but not too shabby!! It's on Jillybean!!!

Different Page Size Challenge

OK...Here's my different page size layout. I was going to do 8.5"x11". But because I am behind I kind of cheated and took a 12x12 layout I was working on and cut it down to the size 9"x12".

The Journaling says: Mom, are you for real? Making me wear these dorky bunny ears! Do you have any idea what this will do to my reputation? Just you wait....I'll get back at you for this someday!

Products: All Paper/Letter Stickers are from SEI, Rub-On from TLC, Brads unknown and scalloped border unknow.

Post CK Convention Challenge

I'm still here and am frantically trying to catch up with the last 2 challenges. I think I should have them done by tomorrow.

However we still need to move on to the next challenge so here's what we are going to do....
I think all of us on this board attended convention last week and also attended classes where we did some really cute projects. The goal for this week is to add photos and complete these layouts so they don't just lay around for an eternity. Post one or two of your completed projects.

My page size was 6x12" and the journaling says "The first Saturday of each month, our women's ministry group has a breakfast where we all have serious fellowship and strict spiritual discussions! Different Page Sizes

This week's challenge is super easy....because I am getting ready for CKC on Friday and will be out of town the rest of the weekend. So, the challenge is to create a layout using a page size you don't normally use. I am normally a 12x12 page girl, so I have lots of options...8x8, 6x6, 6x12 or 8.5x11. Which will you choose?

something old, something new

The journaling says, "Somewhere along the journey of my life, fundamental truths became skewed and with it my self-image. Basic facts became corrupted and lost along with the joy and innocence of childhood. I cannot change the things that have happened in the past, nor would I really want to. I believe that by undoing one, you undo the whole and I know that I am becoming the person God created me to be. BUT, I want to rewrite the truths of my life. I am reloading my operating system with joy, and I am claiming that joy for myself and my future." And then the side strips are the truths or joys that I am reclaiming.
The old was the polka dot paper, vellum, and discover rub-on, and the new was....everything else!

I read this challenge in the current Memory Makers Magazine and thought it would be a good idea for us to dive into our old stuff. (Especially with CK Convention right around the corner we will need to make room for all our cool new finds!)

1.)Pull out scrapping supplies that you absolutely love and that are more than one year old. (You know that you have these!!)

2.) Grab the stuff you bought on your last scrapbooking shopping trip.

3.) Use both old and new products on one layout.

Contrasting Colors Post - JillyBean

My base color was the red/violet and green was my contrasting color. (Although you can't really see my green in this photo.) Red/Violet cardstock is Bazzill and the green cardstock is unknown. Patterned paper came from Michael's Christmas Slab from last year. I got this idea from Ali Edwards book, Life Artist - I used a square punch to take parts of all the Christmas pictures/cards I received at Christmas time and placed them in a slanted grid. -JillyBean-

Constrasting Colors Entry (It wasn't me)

My first color was a blue grey...which I didn't have in my supply! So, I grabbed the acrylic paints and made my own! And my contrasting color was orange! I added text to the photo in Photoshop. The font was ddwords, downloaded from www.donnadowney.com. The letter stickers are vinyl orange Thickers from American Crafts. And the bling...came in the circles, cool colors...FROM ME & MY BIG IDEAS..."icons". The patterned paper border is from the HUGE My Mind's Eye Kaleidoscope/Wild Asparagus pack that were available at COSTCO last year. After I tacked down the border with adhesive....I stitched it down with my sewing machine!! My personal goal this year is to actual stich onto my pages with something more than just rub ons!!

Choose from your paper supply one sheet of paper that matches a color that you are wearing TODAY and a second piece that contrasts with it. It can be plain or printed, but be BOLD! If you are wearing a neutral tone, punch it up with a bold, vibrant color!
